Frequently Asked Questions about Applications
1. If I apply and am accepted into the QRC, when would I start working?
Application decisions will be sent out towards the end of the semester, and training time for the following semester will be decided later. Usually it happens a week before the semester starts. If accepted, you must be able to attend this training.
2. What would I do as a QRC staffer?
All staffers hold office hours (usually 3 or 4 per week), peer counsel, and lead educational programs on campus.
3. What does training entail? Is it mandatory?
Training is one week long, held either before fall or spring semester, and is mandatory for all staffers, both new and returning. Topics include: Queer 101, GenderPOW, Trans 101, Peer Counseling, Listening Skills, Public Speaking, Oppression and Privilege, Intersectionality, Suicide, Self Harm, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Polyamory, BDSM/Kink, and others.
4. How are staffers chosen?
After submitting an application, all applicants are interviewed by a current staffer, and decisions are made at our Mega Meeting based on a variety of factors from their application and interview. Throughout the application process, the identity of each applicant is kept confidential and is only revealed to the staff if an applicant is accepted to the QRC.
5. Can I apply to be a QRC staffer and an OL/CA?
QRC fall training conflicts with CA training and OL duties, so you cannot currently be in both positions. However, after completing QRC training, it may be possible to work with a staffer's schedule who wishes to work as a CA or OL.
6. What if I'm studying abroad in the spring? Can I still apply?
Absolutely! While being accepted does entail a 2 semester commitment, they do not need to be concurrent. So if you are accepted to the Fall 2015 staff, you would attend training and work for the full fall semester, and then return to staff after your semester abroad.
7. Do QRC staffers get paid?
No, QRC staffer positions are voluntary at this time.
